Dawn Giorno, LCSW
Hi, I’m so happy you are here!
I’m a dedicated, holistic therapist who is committed to holding a supportive and nonjudgmental space for you. Some quick basics: I have over 11 years of experience as a clinician and 18 years of experience in the mental health field. My practice is located in the charming Tosa Village. I specialize in working with couples looking to increase intimacy and individuals looking to heal trauma and to connect more deeply with themselves and in their relationships. Additionally, I see a variety of folks who are navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions and relationship challenges. I am especially interested and passionate about using somatic techniques—to go beyond just talk therapy. My goal is to help you understand the deeper meaning and function of how you show up in the world. Together, we can move towards the life you deserve by focusing on your unique needs and the messy stuff of life while building the skills necessary to make immediate and effective change.
Couples Therapy
In my couples work, I often incorporate deep individual work in sessions as part of my specialized approach. Simply put—we cannot be in relationships with others without our own “stuff” showing up. My experience has shown me that there is great benefit for many couples doing this work and profound change can happen with your partner by your side. I have a special interest in physical and emotional intimacy (hint: they are SO connected!) and how betrayals like infidelity impact a relationship. I offer practical ways to communicate more effectively, find playfulness and excitement with each other all while maintaining healthy boundaries. I am trained in Relational Life Therapy and The Gottman Method. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming.
Postpartum & Parenthood
I also specialize in working with new parents—both in relationships and individually to explore the huge transition that occurs. While this is often a joyous time, it is also when you may feel grief, sadness, overwhelm and anxiety. You don’t have to feel all of this alone. If this sounds like your situation, I will help you navigate these up and downs with compassion, understanding and practical skills that will allow you to show up without depleting yourself. I have specific training in Perinatal Mood Disorders by Postpartum Support International.
On a More Personal Note…
I received my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I maintain licensure in the State of Wisconsin as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Additionally, I am looking forward to receiving more training in somatic techniques in the coming months.
When I’m not doing healing work with clients, I enjoy time with my husband, two children and friends. I love to hike, garden, cook, read, dance and travel. In the warmer months, you’ll find me in my garden and enjoying the greater Milwaukee area with my family and friends—especially our beautiful Lake Michigan. In the colder months, I enjoy a long winter hike, sitting by a fire and if we’re lucky enough to have a snowfall—laughing my way down a sledding hill.
